Tribute to Mrs. May Jen

Mr. W. Whitburn
It is indeed fitting that this Trust be named in commemoration of Mrs May Jen, a lady of great perception, much compassion and a keen sense of humour. It was her involvement in the conduct of Linmark operations that made this Company of young Chinese, many in their first employment, so successful during the infancy of Taiwan's growth as one of the four trading ‘Dragons' of Asia.
Mrs Jen had the ability to spot talent and then to nurture it. As a consequence of this, many of Linmark's alumni went on to achieve great results both in Taiwan and internationally. While Mrs May Jen embraced modern ideas and technology, her principles were based on the traditional Chinese values of hard, purposeful work and thrift. She was always the mistress of every pertinent fact.
Mrs May Jen was a charming, attractive and cultured lady, who exuded confidence and authority. She not only heard what was being said, but also understood the full meaning of the words used and the implied nuances. She did not suffer fools gladly. If she was alive today, she would probably tell the successful applicants of this Trust, “God gave you a brain, the Trust gives you the means and it is up to you to make the best of both”
